For the majority of businesses the answer is yes. The reason, simply put, is that social media advertising is a quicker and less expensive than optimizing for Google searches.
Google favors the ‘haves’
In 2013 Google began cleaning up the internet, and while they did eliminate useless information in favor of higher quality content, they also make it just about impossible for a new comer to be seen in competitive categories.
The leaders in these competitive categories are typically large organizations with enormous budgets. There are a few smaller players, but they have been there for years.
If it were even possible, the investment that would be needed to supplant those who occupy the top positions would probably be greater than the actual value of being successful.
AdWords, Google’s paid advertising network, still offers opportunity, but the costs have dramatically increased as advertisers, no longer willing to compete for ‘free search’, have bid up the prices.
